Five Reasons We Church.

Five Reasons We Church.

Let us not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but let us exhort one another, especially as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25 MEV

1. Christians must assemble together to hear the proclamation of God’s word (Ephesians 4:11-16). The entire Christian worldview is built around this one pillar, namely preaching. From the very beginning of one’s Christian pilgrimage to the end, faith comes through hearing and hearing comes by preaching. God’s plan from the very beginning of His church is that we receive instruction and teaching from a local assembly. We absolutely must assemble together to receive teaching from the “elders that labor in the word”. Youtube sermons will never be a substitute for this God ordained design.

2. Christians must assemble to sing their lungs out together for Christ (Ephesians 5:19-21) (Colossians 3:16). Throughout the Scriptures and Church history shines this one blatant fact, God’s people sing and they sing a lot. I think it warms the heart of our Father when He hears His children singing up melodies of praise with one accord. Oh, how beautiful to hear the brethren in unity proclaiming to the top of their lungs “Jesus is fairer”.

3. Christians must assemble to encourage and exhort one another. We absolutely need each other. We are all apart of one body (1 Corinthians 12:15-26) and we must learn to be dependent on each other for help and guidance. We must hang out together. We must talk together. We must study together. We must pray together. We must live and die together. Christians are not separate little entities roaming around fighting the devil by themselves, we’re a united body of warriors that have many different gifts and functions.

4. Christian’s must assemble together because our Redeemer has instructed us to (Hebrews 10:25). Brothers, this is not an option for you to consider, this is God’s command for you to obey. This is no light issue. Our Ruler has spoken His will, we must conform. We must forfeit all unnecessary pursuits if need be.

5. Christians must assemble to faithfully worship God. Is not our God the greatest conceivable being in all the universe? Is He not perfect in all His attributes? Does He not inherently merit all worship? Brothers, let us fall down together and cry in the presence of our God “Holy, Holy, Holy”. Let us be dumbfounded at the sight and beauty of Christ whereby we lose all speech except “You are worthy”. Oh, the Joy of being lost in the sight of such a Holy God. This sight is not meant to be experienced in our personal life only, it’s meant to be experienced corporately among the congregation of Christ’s bride (Nehemiah 8:6) (2 Chronicles 20:18).

When He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll,
and to open its seals;
for You were slain,
and have redeemed us to God by Your blood
out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
and have made us kings and priests unto our God;
and we shall reign on the earth.”
Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voices of many angels, numbering ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice:

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and blessing!”
Then I heard every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that are in them, saying:

“To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and power,
forever and ever!”
